The 2018 Black Heritage Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 10 at the Lake Charles Civic Center, where the annual "festival brings together the cultures of Africa and Southwest Louisiana and brings out the best in our community", said a media release.

Each year the community comes together by celebrating culture, diversity, education, and food, all backed by the sounds of local musicians from right here in our area. There's also the Market Place, filled with vendors and activities for everyone including the kids.

The Black Heritage Festival Louisiana kicks off annually the second weekend in March in Lake Charles, Louisiana. If you’re hungry for mouthwatering food, terrific music and great family fun then this is the place for you. Entertainers perform gospel, zydeco, blues, spoken word and more on the Kids and Main Stages. There are approximately 70 vendors displaying and selling a wide variety of goods and services. Food booths will serve plenty of great tasting Louisiana Creole and Traditional African-American foods, including gumbo, jambalaya and Barbecue. The vendor marketplace will be open with an array of art, books, jewelry, African artifacts, clothing, collectibles, Greek paraphernalia and lots, lots more.

In addition to great food, music and fun the festival provides educational opportunities through workshops and seminars.

Youth programs consist of KIDS ZONE, Baby Expo/ Healthy Baby, Fashion Show, performing arts stage, and many free chances to win bicycles and other giveaways. - bhflc.org
