When I think of a good person who would help anyone. It would have to be James Mayo. I met him when I first moved to Lake Charles in 2001. He was a member of a social club called The Fellas. They were a group of men who were movers and shakers in the city. They could also throw some major parties as well.

James was also the key connect for events at The Lake Charles Civic Center. If you wanted to do anything there or wanted to know what was happening in the city. You can believe that James Mayo was the go to person for all events.Unfortunately we lost this great man on December 13th, 2014 in his sleep. He left plenty of great memories as well as family and friends.

To honor his memory, we ask that you come join Xavier University of Louisiana Lake Charles Alumni Chapter at the annual scholarship fundraiser and silent auction on Saturday January 16th at 7 pm. It's all taking place inside the historic Charleston Hotel Downtown. The event titled The Harlem Renaissance Era will be a night to remember with music provided by Chester Daigle. The proceeds from the event will support area students attending Xavier University and the James Mayo Endowed Schlarship.

If you would like to purchase tickets, please do so by going to eventbrite.com or calling Consuela Colston at 337-513-9598 for more details.
