Today in Tha Wire I'm quite sure rap pioneers in 1969 and 1970 "didn't think Hip Hop would ever take it this far." Clearly...Biggie did! Nearly 50 years after the first Hip Hop song made its radio debut with, Rapper's Delight, it's still a phenomenon. Today Hip Hop is the number one music genre. According to the Nielson Music (2017 U.S. Music Year-End Report,) the R&B/hip-hop genre represented 24.5 percent of all music consumption in the U.S. -- the largest share of any genre in the country.

Given the impact this music genre has had on the world, it's only right that a museum is erected to preserve the defining moments of how Hip Hop changed the landscape of music forever. AllHipHop reports the Universal Hip Hop Museum, is scheduled to open in 2022. Architectural designers, Mike Ford and Hamilton Anderson Associates said they will break ground in the Bronx December 2019 and begin it's construction. Ralph Appelbaum Associates (The National Museum of African American History and Culture, Smithsonian Institution) were enlisted as the design team.

Peep the fly trailer below!

What's really exciting is two Hip Hop pioneers will be the overseers of the museum! UHHM Executive Director Rocky Bucano, announced Public Enemy's, Chuck D, was elected Chairman of the Celebrity Board while fellow Hip Hop pioneer, Kurtis Blow, will serve as the Chairman of the Board. Chuck D is honored to be a part of history again saying, "My life has been dedicated to the Hip Hop genre, both serving it as an artist and curating it to share with others, and I want to carry that work over to the Universal Hip Hop Museum. The museum is what we need to organize as a collective and present its history while having a hand in its future."

Kurtis Blow can't think of anyone better adding, "Chuck D is one of the most intelligent and well-respected MC’s in the culture of Hip Hop. The credibility he brings to our team is mammoth. He also understands the importance of the Universal Hip Hop Museum and vows to let the world know via a star-studded celebrity board in the near future. Flame on!!!”

AllHipHop reports the board is still raising funds to ensure the museum's authenticity and historical content. So far UHHM has secured $20 million!

Finally congrats to my favorite rap couple on the birth of their new baby! XXL reports rap superstars Remy Ma and Papoose welcomed their first child together. "The Golden Child," as her daddy called her. It's been a long time coming, but at last baby Mackie was born last Friday (December 14, 2018.) The happy couple had a healthy little girl, but sometime over the weekend Remy started experiencing complications and had to be rushed to the hospital.

They had a scary moment as doctors discovered Remy was bleeding. Tuesday (December 18, 2018) this week the rap diva was admitted and scheduled for surgery to stop internal bleeding. XXL reports Remy pulled through like a champ, the surgery was a success and she is recovering. Thankfully all is well once again. We send our best wishes to them both.
