The CDC issued a No Sail Order to all cruise lines due to COVID-19. That order was set to expire on July, 24 2020. As states began to re-open, Carnival Cruise Lines began to schedule guests beginning at the end of July of this year. The order was set to lift and guests would set sail on the vacation of their dreams.

Despite the July 24 date, Carnival has issued a letter to all booked passengers saying they will be voluntarily extending their North American cruising pause through September 30, 2020. This pause makes it the cruise line's third consecutive pause since shutting down for COVID-19 after all of its liners returned to their respective ports.

In a letter written to guests and agents, Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy explained how Carnival is continuing to work with industry partners, government bodies, and public health officials to assess the situation day by day. She went on to say that everyone who had booked a cruise through September 30 will be contacted about the cancellation and have the ability to reschedule their cruise or receive a full refund.

Carnival Cruise Lines currently employs almost 29,000 crew members spread out over a fleet of 27 ships across the world.
