The city of Lake Charles has announced the north beach off of I-10 on Lakeshore Drive will be closed starting today, July 1. The city said the reason behind closing the beach is due to concerns of an increase in cases of COVID-19 in the area.

In the state of Louisiana, new cases increased by over 18,000 in June and Calcasieu Parish has seen its fair share. Out of caution, the city of Lake Charles has decided to shut the beach down. Access to the parking lot at the old Harrah's Casino site will also be closed.

This Saturday is the city of Lake Charles Red, White, Blue and You celebration, but remember, the event will be streamed online only and residents are not encouraged to assemble downtown, as the fireworks will be launched from an undisclosed location. The Lake Charles Civic Center remains closed until further notice and residents are encouraged not to go into the building.
