With a storm team over 8,300 strong, Entergy is working around the clock to restore power to Southwest Louisiana. While work proceeds on restoring distribution lines around Lake Charles, the main problem is with the transmission lines that carry power into the city.

Entergy says all nine transmission lines that bring power to the area are currently out of service due to the structures that support them being severely damaged, requiring significant repairs or replacement.

The company expects to energize the first of these nine transmission lines in two weeks.

In the meantime, Entergy is exploring other options of getting electricity flowing in the city through the use of generators. However, the company said it expects it will be two to three weeks before customers in Lake Charles can once again begin receiving electricity safely.

The damaged electrical infrastructure in Southwest Louisiana includes approximately 1,000 transmission structures, 6,637 broken poles, 2,926 transformers and 338 miles of downed distribution wire.
