The Louisiana Passenger Task Force will hold free child passenger safety seat checks on Saturday, May 26, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the Lake Charles Civic Center, located at 900 Lakeshore Drive. The seat checks will take place on the lakeside behind the exhibition hall, said a media LSP media release.

Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to properly inspect seats to be sure they are installed correctly and that the child is in an age and weight appropriate child restraint free of charge.

There will also be a Trooper on hand "to provide occupant protection education and to answer questions as part of the free "My Fair Baby Safe Sleep Baby Shower" that will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. inside the Civic Center.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children. Many injuries and deaths can be prevented by properly using child safety seats. Anyone who transports a young child in a vehicle is encouraged to take advantage of this free service.
