I always wondered when I was a kid why school buses don't have seat belts.

Eight states including Arkansas, California, Florida, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Texas have laws requiring the installation of seat belts on school buses.

However, WWL TV reports:

In 1999, the Louisiana Legislature approved rules saying every school bus must have a restraint system, but the same law also said it's subject to the appropriation of funds. Since funds weren't ever approved for seat belts, the law hasn't been implemented.

I was going down a YouTube rabbit hole yesterday and came across this video. Man, this is straight nightmare fuel for parents. I think it's beyond time that we call our local Louisiana legislators and let them know we want seatbelts in school buses, but for real this time.  As you will see in the video below, the bus driver wasn't thrown around the bus because she's wearing...want to take a guess....a seat belt.

This happened in December of 2019 and it's gut-wrenching. Security cam from inside a school bus in Ohio captured the moment it crashed and overturned. It hit a car that ran a red light.

There were 25 students plus the driver, but none of them were seriously injured. The worst part was some students got pinned inside the bus and you can hear them screaming for help. But the driver stayed calm and talked them through it.
