It's been a little while since we have seen a total viral, and mostly annoying, social media trend. I guess we were past due for one. Introducing the "NewProfilePic" app. The app takes your selfie, or picture of you and your friends' faces, and makes them into a painting/cartoon-like picture. If you get the right picture, they are actually quite cool and beautiful.

The issue is that everyone and their mother have been posting them on social media. Upside? At least they are posts about high gas prices, high rent prices, or how some local restaurant didn't include a straw in their to-go order. So what do you do?

Before we get into how to do this little trend, Understand that apps like these are taking your picture and some info to use. What are they doing with it? Beats me, but you should always use a bit of caution when using any app in general. There are even rumors of the app being based out of Russia and somehow they're using the app to steal your information. I have no idea why Putin wants my picture, but he's more than welcome to it. Now, how do you do this little trend?

You've got two options. Web-based, or you can use an app. Either way, it's the same thing. You can go to newprofilepic.com or search for the same in the Google Play or Apple App store. Shameless plug while you're there, go get the Gator 99.5 app. The New Profile Pic App is free and so is the Gator App. Hint. Hint!

After you get it all downloaded, you'll be asked to sign in by making an account or using your Facebook profile. Personally, I use a new account with a throw-away email address I have. It's up to you. If you linked it to your Facebook profile, it just means you can get it on Facebook quicker. If you don't, you can just download the picture to your phone or computer and go about it that way to get it to your social media platforms.

All in all, it's pretty cool and I did quite a few just to see what they would look like. It's certainly a neat program to use, so you might as well jump on the bandwagon and try a few out.
