Iconic Comedian/Actor John Witherspoon Dies At 77

One of the most beloved comedians of our time has died. The iconic comic and actor John Witherspoon, died unexpectedly last night at the age of 77. The man best known for his role as Willie Jones in all the Friday movies series, and Pops from The Wayans Bros sitcom is gone.

Tuesday Witherspoon's family released the following statements to Deadline and via Witherspoon's Twitter page,

“It is with deepest sorrow that we can confirm our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, one of the hardest working men in show business, died today at his home in Sherman Oaks. We are all in shock, please give us a minute for a moment in privacy and we will celebrate his life and his work together," the statement added. "John used to say ‘I’m no big deal’, but he was huge deal to us.”
