Tyrann Mathieu has been gone long enough.  I'm so glad to see Louisiana's native son in the black and gold where he belongs.

Mathieu was born on May 13, 1992 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He would attend St. Augustine High School in New Orleans and go on to represent The Boot at LSU.

Tyrann would earn the nickname the Honey Badger while playing football at LSU for his tough, relentless, and no-fear playing style. In 2011, he was a Heisman Trophy finalist and won the Chuck Bednarik Award for being the best defensive player in the nation. In 2012, however, his college career would come to a close as he was dismissed from the LSU football team for several failed drug tests.

In 2013, the Arizona Cardinals would select Mathieu in the third round of the NFL Draft. During his career, he would also play for the Houston Texans, and win a Superbowl with the Kanas City Chiefs.

The Honey Badger became a free agent at the end of the 2021 season, and then the stars aligned. The Saints chose not to match the offer from the Baltimore Ravens for safety Marcus Williams. The team needed a new leader in the defensive secondary, and Louisiana residents had our prayers answered in May of this year as the Saints announced they had signed Mathieu to a three-year deal.

That's not the only great news Saints fans got this offseason. The Saints also announced that they had signed former LSU wide receiver Jarvis Landry. He was born in Convent, Louisiana, and played football at Lutcher High School.

I don't like the fact the Saints only signed Landry on a one-year deal, but on the other hand, I get it. He has to prove he can stay healthy after coming off two knee injuries last season with the Cleveland Browns.

I believe Mickey Loomis blasted two home runs with the signings of Mathieu and Landry. Saints fans from Louisiana are going to absolutely love watching these two Louisiana-born superstars play in the dome and represent The Boot once again. There is a since of pride when someone "makes it" from Louisiana and then add to that the fact that they're coming back home to hopefully finish out their storied NFL careers in the state where it all began in pee-wee football.  You can't write a better story than that.
