As most Louisianans know, we can make a festival for just about anything. Here in Southwest Louisiana, we pride ourselves on our fairs, festivals, and live music. In Sugartown, you are bound to find some of the sweetest watermelons you will ever find, so they made a festival about it!

The Sugartown Watermelon Festival was started in 1966 in Sugartown, Louisiana. The festival is a way for the community to come out and celebrate the Watermelon season. Since its inception in 1966, the festival has grown so big that it was moved to the City of DeRidder and became the Beauregard Watermelon Festival.

Each year at the Watermelon Festival, you can always expect events like seed spitting, games, live music, food, and PLENTY of watermelons. In 2023, the Watermelon Festival has added a plethora of brand-new events. The festival will introduce new games and events like Melon Voice, Watermelon Crawl Dance Classes, Watermelon Weiner Dog Races, and so much more.

Last year the Watermelon Festival added major success competitions such as the Watermelon Festival Mullet Competition which featured over 30 entries in year one. This year at the Watermelon Festival, they will also be teaching “Watermelon Magic” classes where they will demonstrate how to properly grow a watermelon. Along with the magic class, they will also be giving out brand new books called “Millly’s Watermelon Magic.” The book was written and illustrated by Director Stephanie Carroll.

This year's entertainment will feature a ton of Louisiana Cajun French music. Each night, the live entertainment will be kicked off with “Melon Voice”, the brand-new singing competition. Friday Nights entertainment will be Danny Trahan & Rosewood Rockin and closing out the night with Jamie Bergeron & the Kickin’ Cajuns.
