Former LSU Tiger and Elton Native Al Woods received some devastating news over the weekend.

Out of High School, Woods was rated amongst the top defensive tackle prospects in the country by every major recruiting publication. Received first-team all-state and all-district honors his last two seasons … Also played on the offensive line during his senior season and was ranked as the top prospect in the state of Louisiana by Tigerbait.com and as the nation’s 15th-best recruit by ESPN.com. Named to Tom Lemming’s 2005 All-America team, the FSN South’s Countdown to Signing Day “All-South” second team, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super Southern 100, the Baton Rouge Advocate Super Dozen, the Mobile Register Super Southeast 120 and the New Orleans Times-Picayune Top 16 Blue-Chip list. During his time at LSU, Woods Played in 41 games, starting 16 times. Al finished his career with 73 tackles, including 35 solo stops. Had 8.0 tackles for losses and 3.5 sacks. Started all 13 games as a senior for LSU in 2009.

After starting 30 of 34 games the past two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, Woods joined the Jets on a one-year free-agent deal this past May.

Woods recorded six tackles, two quarterback hits, and 1.0 sacks through his first five games as a Jet. His quarterback pressure forced the Denver Broncos into a safety during a 31-21 road win on October 8.

During the game on Sunday, Woods went out of the ballgame in the 1st Quarter with an apparent injury. He was later downgraded to OUT. After the game, here's what Jets' Head Coach Robert Saleh had to say...

"Al Woods tore his Achilles. He's done," said Saleh.
