Lake Charles Included in Latest List of Louisiana’s Most Dangerous Bridges

We all know that Louisiana’s roads can be a bit of a mess to drive on. The highways can be even scarier. We have compiled a list of some of the most dangerous bridges in Louisiana. Will Lake Charles be on the list (that was a rhetorical question). We have compiled a list based on data from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.

Dangerous Bridges in Louisiana

I-20 over US 71, Kansas City Southern Railroad, SW ramp. This Shreveport bridge is dangerous because of the on-ramp. This one, along with the previous three, was built in 1966 and sees more than 50,000 travelers per day.  

I-10 Over Sabine Relief which was built in 1965 and sees nearly 50,000 patrons pass over the urban road every day. Lucky for SWLA, they are in the process of working on this bridge.

Now, we’re going to St. Martin Parish onto the bridge that leads into Breaux Bridge
LA-354 Over I-10. This bridge was built in 1970 and has over 60,000 travelers each day. 

In Jefferson Parish on I-10 over Veterans Memorial Highway. It is said that both east and west of the bridge have major structural problems. Over 60,000 travelers cross this bridge daily.

I-20 over St. Louis Southwestern and Kansas City Southern Railroads and Westerfield. This is the second Shreveport bridge to come up on our list. Located in Bossier Parish, it was built in 1966 and more than 50,000 travelers cross this bridge daily.

The most dangerous bridge in Louisiana resides in Southwest Louisiana.

The I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge comes in at number one on the list. The Calcasieu River Bridge resides in Lake Charles over top of the Calcasieu River. It was built in 1952 and over 82,000 people travel this bridge daily. It is known to be one of the most dangerous bridges not only in Louisiana but also in the nation.
