Louisiana To Receive Several Inches Of Rain Wednesday And Thursday
From one extreme to another with the weather here in Louisiana. Last week, we were all bracing for rain and freezing weather. We also dealt with icy roadways and bridges and roads being closed due to the storms that rolled through our area.
Now this week, we are dealing with the threat of severe weather, fog, and a lot of rain that could fall in the area over the next couple of days. Southwest Louisiana is currently under a Flood Watch until Thursday morning, January 25th. We are also under a River Flood Warning until this Thursday as well.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service are calling for a bunch of rain to fall in the Southwest Louisiana area with some areas possibly seeing three to four inches of rain over the next two days.
They are calling for several inches of rain along with dense fog in the area and winds being gusty at times. Here is the current forecast from the National Weather Service.
Wednesday, January 24th, 2024
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy dense fog before 3 pm, then patchy dense fog after 4 pm. High near 70. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northeast in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.
Wednesday night, January 24th, 2024
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog. Low around 61. Southeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.
Thursday, January 25th, 2024
Showers and thunderstorms likely before 9am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 9am and noon, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Areas of dense fog before 1pm, then patchy dense fog after 5pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Forecasters have up the rainfall totals and are saying certain areas could get 6 to 10 inches of rain over the next couple of days.
