This is a total bummer, I was looking forward to making the maiden voyage for the Oleander family to Ruston. It's funny how a gas station will motivate you to go to a city in your state for the first time.

BR Proud is reporting that the Louisiana Department of Transporation has put a halt to the current construction plans so that they can conduct a traffic survey of the area. This will delay approval to begin the project until July, which means the opening date of the Travel Center will be pushed back to the later months of 2025.

Jade West, Economic Development Director for the City of Ruston, talked to KEEL Radio about the importance of Buc-ee's for their city:

This is a huge win for Ruston and all of North Louisiana. We are thrilled that Buc-ee's saw the potential in our city and are so glad they are locating the first Buc-ee's in Louisiana here in Ruston. The economic impact of this development is substantial and something the community will continue to benefit from for years to come. I am excited to see the additional development and indirect economic impact that will spur from this project. Our community is well-positioned for future growth and success.

According to KPEL Radio the location of the new Buc-ee's location will be directly across from the Ruston Junior High School. I'm in no way advocating this behavior, but what an amazing wonderland to skip school at.
