Walk For The Cure! Lake Charles ‘Sister’s Surviving Cancer’ Walk And Fair

The Breast Cancer Walk And Fair, presented by The Sister Surviving Cancer Support Group of Lake Charles. The annual walk is scheduled for October 7 at the  Martin Luther King Center, at 2009 N. Simmons Street in Lake Charles. This community event is a celebration of life in honor of women in SWLA who have defeated cancer, are being treated for cancer, and have completed cancer treatment. This is also an occasion to raise healthcare awareness and remind women that early detection is key to surviving a cancer diagnosis.

We still have work to do when it comes to cancer research. One day, cancer will be eradicated from the human race. Remaining hopeful, hosting educational events and community walks is a great way to continue the ground fight and raise the needed funds to maintain resources and services. Doctors and scientists are working on a cure and won't give it up until they find one!

Until then, let's come together and celebrate life and each other. Help end cancer! Come out, walk for yourself and your loved ones, or as a way to give back. Walk in memory of a loved one who lost their battle but is free of pain and illness. This is for everyone! All residents, churches, civic groups, clubs, and businesses are invited to participate. This is a free event and open to the public.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the walk kicking off shortly afterward. After the walk, hang out for fellowship with the community at the MLK Center. There will be a variety of booths offering info about local cancer resources and services available, especially for Sisters Surviving Cancer in SWLA.

This cancer support group was formed for minority women of color to link cancer diagnosis with various common and related healthcare issues women of color face. However, it is open to all women, regardless of race.

Since this is a support group for women surviving cancer, members should be women who have been newly diagnosed, are undergoing, or have completed treatment.
