He was only 16 when his music career began in 1982. While performing with his childhood friend, Stacy Lattisaw, she convinced him to do a demo and give it to the president of Atlantic Records, Herb Abramson. He did. His solo music career took off, and the rest is history!

Johnny Gill is an amazing music artist that has gone from a soloist, a duo, a sextet, a trio, and back to a soloist without missing a single beat! He will forever be known as the sixth and final member of the legendary boy group New Edition (whom he still performs/tours with.) His also the only member not from Boston.

Recruited by Michael Bivins to fill two huge positions. Gill joined New Edition after Bobby Brown was voted out in 1987 and was replacing the lead singer Ralph Tresvant at same time who was contemplating going solo. His powerful voice helped took New Edition from boys to men and forever changed the group's sound. Even better, Ralph stayed with the group. Today the New Edition musical journey continues as Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph, and Johnny are on tour together celebrating their 40th anniversary!

Johnny Gill is a master performer and musical multi-tasker through the decades juggling a successful solo career with two different groups simultaneously. By 1997, he joined the trio L.S.G. alongside R&B legends Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat.

Gill has released 1 collab LP with Stacy Latitisaw, 8 solo projects, 3 albums with New Edition, and 2 LPs with L.S.G. His career has stood the test of time, and his musical legacy is ongoing.

Today at 57, Gill continues his music journey as a soloist and member of New Edition, and life is good! We are lucky to have this singing icon in SWLA for one night live at the Golden Nugget Lake Charles inside the Grand Event Center. Presale tickets go on sale Friday, July 14, 2023, @ 10 am! Johnny performs live in Lake Charles on Friday, October 13 at 8:30 pm! Don't miss it.
