With the 2023-24 school year winding down, now is a great time to let teachers know they are appreciated. Teacher Appreciation Week is from May 6 through May 10, 2024, and National Teacher Appreciation Day is Tuesday, May 7. Did you thank your teacher or your child's teacher for all their hard work this year?

If not, you're in luck because you have a whole week to do so. Stop and get a thank you card, and let your little one draw their favorite teacher a picture or something. It's a tough job, and they deserve our gratitude. So, before you graduate or leave school for summer break, take a moment and your favorite educators.

Teaching can be a challenging job, especially today. I can do many things, but teaching isn't one of them. I don't have the patience or temperament. It takes a special kind of person to want to sit in a classroom with 20+ children every day. But more than that, teachers are extraordinary people willing to give the gift of knowledge, mentor, guide, inspire our children, and help us prepare them for their future.

I am so grateful to all the teachers who have educated and encouraged my kids: Mrs. Angela Lewis, Mrs. Beverly Williams, Mrs. Heather Jackson, Mrs.Jennifer Smith, and Mr. Travis Bolden. Thank you all because you played a crucial role in my children's lives and made a lasting impression.

Teachers, coaches, music teachers, band directors, councilors, cafeteria workers, janitors, bus drivers, and principals. They are all essential members of our society and our kids' lives. I also wanted to thank my daughter's principal, Mr. Cobian, for being a great leader and educator. He's the Principal at F.K. White Middle School in Lake Charles and was nominated for the 2024 PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR! He didn't win the annual award the Louisiana Department of Education presented, but he was a finalist!

Congrats to Mr. Cobian on making the elite list of runner-ups, to this year's Principal and Teacher of the Year honorees, Tia Mechelle Trahan and Kylie Altier, and to all of the teachers who were nominated for their commitment to education excellence and dedication to our kids in Louisiana! Thanks again for the hard work.

This Teacher Appreciation Week, remember the unsung heroes who show up for you every day, prepare hundreds of meals, keep the schools clean, or return your kids home safe and sound. They deserve our thanks.
