The McNeese football team just wrapped up their limited, seven-game spring 2021 football season since the Pokes didn't get to play last fall due to the pandemic.

The Cowboys finished the abbreviated season at 3-4 under first-year head coach Frank Wilson. Now all eyes look forward to the 2021 fall season, which includes some big games at home and a renewed rivalry game in Death Valley.

The McNeese athletic department released the 2021 fall football schedule, and the Cowboys will have a real test early in the year.

Their first road game will be in Baton Rouge, where they take on the LSU Tigers. This game will have a little more focus on it since the head coach for the Tigers, Ed Orgeron, will face off against his son, Cody Orgeron, who is the McNeese starting quarterback.

The Cowboys will have five home games in total.against the University of West Florida, Southern Louisiana, Incarnate Word, Nicholls, and Northwestern State and will hit the road to take on LSU, Southern, Incarnate Word, Northwestern State, Southern, and Houston Baptist.

After reading their schedule, are you puzzled about why the Cowboys will be facing a few teams twice in the same season? Well, it's all part of the new look Southland Conference.

Matt Bonnette from McNeese explains,

The Cowboys will play an eight-game Southland Conference slate in the new-look league with home-and-home matchups against Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana and Incarnate Word.

Get ready, Cowboy fans. Football will be back in the fall, so let the fun and tailgating begin.
