In an era of reality shows, Louisiana even got into the ring with some unique shows featuring the culture, food, and landscape of our beautiful state.

There are many reality shows out there, from the Real Housewives of this and that, cook-off shows, dating shows, and even Married at First Sight reality shows. As far as reality shows based on or filmed in Louisiana, there were some huge hits while some didn't last long and fizzled out.

Some of the big ones included Duck Dynasty, which was filmed and based out of Monroe, and the other huge hit came from the swamps with the History Channel's Swamp People show that started in 2010.

Duck Dynasty is no longer around but in its heyday, you couldn't turn on the TV without seeing an episode of the show or seeing the stars at sporting events, concerts, or the gross amount of merchandise in stores.

Duck Dynasty started in 2012 and the last show aired on November 16, 2016. It fizzled out due to the controversy from Phil Robertson's comments and the fact that the show had become so scripted, it wasn't believable anymore.

Swamp People premiered on the History Channel on August 22, 2010 and immediately scored big in the ratings, vaulting the cast into instant stardom. You couldn't go to any Louisiana-based festival, outdoor expo, or RV and fishing show without one of the stars doing an autograph signing.

The show airs on the History Channel, but its popularity has started to lose its luster. One of the reasons was the show started having drama with some of its stars. A few of the main characters had run-ins with the law and getting arrested, which put a bad stigma on the show. As of now, the last episode was in the eleventh season, which aired last year on April 16, 2020.

Another reality show that was based out of Louisiana but didn't last long was Cajun Pawn Stars. The show was based out of Alexandria and was based loosely off of the popular Pawn Stars based out of Las Vegas. The show only lasted four seasons and ran from 2012 to 2013.
