Southwest Louisiana May Be in for a Rainy Weekend

The tropics have been quiet for the past few weeks, but that has all changed as two new systems have formed during this 2020 hurricane season. As the waters have heated up, so has the formation of tropical systems increased.

Right now, we are all focusing on the closest system to Southwest Louisiana as Tropical Depression 8 has formed in the South Central Gulf.

As of the 7:00am update, the system is located at 26.0 North and 90.4 West for all you folks who love to track storms on your hurricane tracking maps. Winds are currently at 30mph, moving west-northwest at 9mph.

Even though the track of the storm right now has it making landfall in South Central Texas, Southwest Louisiana will see a bunch of rain this weekend as the outer rain bands move through the area. If the storm strengthens, it will be named Hannah.

Even though landfall in our area is not forecast, the National Weather service is calling for a 100 percent chance of rain for the Southwest Louisiana area Friday and a 90 percent chance of rain Saturday through Monday, so it looks like we are headed for a wet weekend in the area.

And then there is Tropical Storm Gonzalo to keep an eye on.

Currently it's a tropical storm but it is forecast to become a hurricane by early Friday. It is certainly something to keep an eye on after we deal with Tropical Depression 8 this weekend.
