Authorities say that water is overtopping a levee in lower Plaquemines Parish.

An emergency contractor has been contacted after water began overtopping a levee in Plaquemines Parish early Saturday morning. The levee is located in the Myrtle Groves and Pointe Celeste areas.

The water flowing is a threat to Highway 23, a main road running through the parish.

While much of Plaquemines Parish has been under an evacuation order since Thursday, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says that anyone who remains should evacuate.
