Today in Tha Wire as know surprise Cardi B was the big winner during last nights 2019 Bet Awards. However, actress Regina Hall got the set lit with a HUGE tribute to music legend Chuck Brown and the Go-Go Sound! Taking a page from Queen B's famous HBCU Beychella Homecoming set, Mrs. Hall enlisted the famed DRUMline Live drummer and with a dope twist of her own to rep her hometown DC. She was funny as hell and did an awesome job.

It was one of the best BET Awards show I've seen in a while. Meanwhile Boogie Down Bronx own led all artists in the nominations department, with 7. Though she only took home two awards, they were for the most prestigious prizes of the night. Singer/rapper/songwriter, Anderson Paak, had the honors of handing off the biggest win to the 26-year rap phenom. Paak presented Cardi with the 2019 Album of the Year award for her debut LP "Invasion of Privacy." Before the night was over she also scooped up the Best Female Hip Hop Artist of The Year trophy too.

Allhiphop.com reports this years BET Awards took place from the Microsoft Theater in LA and one things for sure, Cardi and Migos rapper Offset had everyone on their feet from the word go. The husband and wife rap superstars opened the show with their hit single Clout. Then Cardi wrapped-up their fire set with her massive hit Press. That was so hot!

As far as other big Hip Hop wins, Travis Scott and Drake the Best Collaboration award for "Sicko Mode," Childish Gambino took home a Video of the Year trophy for "This Is America." Queen B walked with the well deserved Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist went to Bruno Mars and the Migos won Best Group, newcomer Lil Baby coped the Best New Artist award. The Director of the Year went to Blackkklansmen director Karena Evans. Rap pioneer/actor Snoop Dogg slayed with the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award. For her hilarious movie Little the Best Actress award went to Regina King and her co-star Marsai Martin won the Young Stars Award. Finally, Sportswoman of the Year went to Serena Williams, the Sportsman of the Year was awarded to Stephen Curry and R&B songstress Ella Mai won the 2019 Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award

The emotional part of the show came with the tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle. He was killed March 31, 2019 and the pain 3 months after his senseless murder, is as hurtful as the day it happened. The sadness and tragedy surrounding his untimely death will never go away, and could be seen on the faces of his family when they came to the stage to except his posthumous awards for Best Male Hip Hop Artist. He was also honored for commitment and dedication to make the lives of the people in his community and state a better place with the Humanitarian Award.

His grandmother, mother and father, wife and actress Lauren London, sister and children thanked everyone for their prayers and love.

Mary J. Blige got her proppa's an celebrated for the decades of music she blessed us with. Like Queen Latifah said...NOBODY gave more of her life to us than Mary! Rihanna gave a heartfelt thanks to the iconic singer and thank her for all she did to inspire her music career. Rih Rih then presented Mary J. with her long overdue BET Lifetime Achievement Award. Take a look at how it all went down.

Like I said, this years BET Awards was one the best awards shows I've seen in a longtime. Everyone who should have won, actually one for a change as well! Congrats to all the winners by the way. Peep other videos from Sunday nights best performances below. Enjoy!
