In Southwest Louisiana, folks love to get out and do things. But since March of 2020 and the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems like everything that has been scheduled has either been canceled indefinably or postponed.

It just feels like whenever we see an event scheduled and get our hopes up, the event gets canceled. However, we found a live festival that will be a real, in-person event and not virtual.

This Saturday, August 22, the Calcasieu Parish Short Film Festival will take place in Sulphur. The festival will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Brimstone Museum Complex located at 900 South Huntington Street.

This event features the screening of 25 short films, with most produced and directed by Louisiana filmmakers. These are independent films, not feature films you are used to seeing in movie theaters. There is no cost, as it is a free event and open to all ages.

Since it's a live event and festival, event coordinators and attendees will still have to adhere to the CDC guidelines and the Louisiana governor's orders. Masks will be required to attend, and seating will be spread out for social distancing.

For more information about this really cool event, you can log onto to get the run down on all the films that will be featured this Saturday.
