Due to calls from concerned motorists on Christmas, Louisiana State Police Troop D was able to locate a vehicle on I-10 driven erratically by a Sulphur man with a child inside.

It was on Tuesday, December 25, at 7:30 pm, when calls came in about a vehicle allegedly sideswiping a bridge railing. Troopers reportedly located and stopped the vehicle in Lake Charles, driven by Hugo Daniel Gonzalez of Sulphur, La.

Not only was Gonzalez reportedly obviously impaired, but there was also a 10-year-old child in the car. Gonzalez was arrested and transported to Troop D where he "provided a breath sample revealing a blood alcohol content over 3 ½ times the legal limit", said a media release.

Gonzalez is charged with third-offense DWI (with child endangerment), improper lane usage, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, and open alcoholic beverage container. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

"The Louisiana State Police is working hard to reduce the number of crashes on our highways but we can’t do it alone. This arrest was made possible because concerned citizens alerted Troopers to the presence of this dangerous driver, possibly preventing a serious crash. To report impaired or reckless drivers, motorists anywhere in Louisiana are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) to contact State Police directly or to dial 911."
